Description: An evergreen tree mainly native to China, although found in Vietnam, India and Japan. Produced mainly in China, Star Anise is also known as Chinese Star Anise or Chinese Anise, also a well-known spice used in cooking and medicine. Steam distilled from the fresh or partly dried fruit which resembles a star, it produces a pale yellow essential oil. It has the same intensely warm, spicy sweet licorice-like aroma similar to the crushed seeds and aroma like Aniseed. Ancient Chinese physicians used it for its stimulating effect on the digestive system (colic, cramps, flatulence, indigestion) and also for respiratory issues such as bronchitis, colds and coughs, to rheumatism and muscular aches and pains. Widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as for flavoring foods, candies, alcoholic and soft drinks to the fragrance used in soaps, toothpaste and detergents. It’s properties are stimulant, expectorant, diuretic, antispasmodic and tonic. Use in lower concentrations.
It blends well with citrus oils, lavenders, rose, cardamom, nutmeg, firs and pines.
