Safety:  Due to its eugenol content, it oil should only be applied topically with extreme dilution of 0.5% or less. Non-toxic and non-sensitizing when diluted appropriately. Do not use during pregnancy. Avoid if susceptible to epilepsy. Do not use on children under two years old. Do not take Holy Basil essential oil internally.

Description: This sacred herb has been used for centuries and revered in India and Asia, known as Holy Basil or “Tulsi” or  “The Incomparable One,” and which is a member of the mint family.  Hindu legend says it came into being as the incarnation of the Hindu Goddess “Tulsi”.  An annual shrub which grows 2 to 4 feet with purple flowers, green-purple leaves and stems.  It is found growing in many households for its medicinal, religious and spiritual uses.

The essential oil is steam distilled and it’s color is a clear pale yellow to pale green.  It contains a high amount of eugenol giving it the rich, spicy, strong, uplifting aroma shared with clove and cinnamon.  It should be used in low dilutions as it can be a strong irritant to mucus membranes. The essential oil contains Eugenol, 1,8-Cineole, Estragole, B-Bisabolene, (Z)-a-Bisabolene, among others.
