Description:
Catnip essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops and its color is pale yellow to slight orange. The aroma is strong, earthy, complex and herbaceous.
Traditionally used as an insect repellent. The active constituent in catnip nepetalactone, has been found to be more effective than the insect repellent diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET).
The essential oil contains contains nepetalactone isomers, nepetalic acid, dihydronepetalactone, B-Caryophyllene, and Caryophyllene oxide, among others.
Blends well with citronella, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, lemongrass, marjoram, peppermint, orange, rosemary, and spearmint.
May act as a topical anesthetic, and properties are anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, astringent, carminative, nervine, and sedative.
