Description: Native to the Philippines, this species is a tall tree (up to 98 feet ) which exudes a white or yellow natural resin. The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the resin. It is closely related to the trees yielding frankincense, myrrh and opopanax. The ancient Egyptians included elemi in embalming because of its preservative properties. Since the 15th century it has been used in a wide varierty of medicinal uses such as balms, liniments, respiratory, and skin care products.
The essential oil is colorless to pale yellow and the scent has a fresh, peppery-spicy, lemony odor.
The essential oil contains mainly phellandrene, dipentene, elemol, elemicin, terpineol, carvone, terpinolene, among others.
