While coconut oil is solid at room temperature, fractionated coconut oil is a light textured oil that is colorless, odorless and Kosher/Food Grade. The oil is fine enough to pass through for fine mist sprayers making it ideal for natural perfumers who don’t want to use alcohol as a carrier. It is completely soluble with all essential oils and compatible with soaps. Its benefits are many such as being an inexpensive carrier oil, having an infinite shelf life and it can be blended with other oils to help extend their shelf life. A favorite among massage therapists as a base or carrier oil as it penetrates the skin well, doesn’t clog pores and leaves the skin feeling silky smooth without a greasy feeling. It also washes out of massage sheets easily with no staining. Although this is not a cold pressed oil, it is good multi-purpose carrier oil.
Product Application:
Carrier oils, also referred to as base oils or vegetable oils, are used to dilute essential oils, CO2s and absolutes before applying to the skin. Each carrier oil offers different properties and the choice depends on the therapeutic benefit being sought. Unlike essential oils, carrier oils do not evaporate or impart their aroma as strongly as essential oils. However, they usually have a shorter shelf life and can be mixed with a natural preservative such as vitamin E or wheatgerm oil for longer storage. Carrier oils should be natural and preferably cold-pressed. This ensures that the therapeutic qualities remain in the oil and have not been damaged by heat or chemicals.
People allergic to nuts should not use any nut-based oils.
